The IRS “Dirty Dozen” List 2016

From Mark G. Enderle, CPA:

Last month, the IRS released its annual “Dirty Dozen” list of tax scams with identity theft topping this year’s list. Phone scams and phishing (fake emails) are also mentioned. Our clients report incidents to us almost weekly. Interestingly, fake charities also made the list…often with names that sound similar to familiar or nationally-known organizations. If you’re not sure about the organization, call us.

Also in the dirty dozen list, the IRS took the opportunity to point out that they are watching for the overstatement of deductions for things such as charitable contributions or business expenses.
